Open Spatial Center (OSC)
[…] The „Open space“ project and headquarter is based in Chicago (330 W Erie St. Chicago Illinois USA), corner Huron/Fairbanks street near the seashore. The spatial concept is to split the space in two horizontal, you could say „equal“, main parts: a public and open park and the public building above the park. Besides, the green underneath the building cools down the site in the hot summer time. The construction concept is to deal with simple open source construction methods, common and refurbished materials, like used steel beams (not really hard to find, in Chicago) or readymade wall panels as you know from the suburbs. The development is organized in a sequence of events / process phases: The construction of eight access towers out of a concrete skeleton. In future, they provide and ensure the access for the space above a public park (surely with agriculture cultivation areas). While completing the park, the development of the spatial carrier structure (mainly out of steel beams as I already said) begins. Finally the building begins to „life“, new inhabitants mean new constructions methods, new users mean new uses, and all in the focus of spatial research and open source basic constructions methods – like we know it, from „Antfarm“ or from the well-known „Domebook I“ (of course also part II) in the late 1960is early 70is. The OSC should be a place dedicated to the spatial evolution and transmutation in time, in behavior and method. You could say – its all about how to build an open not determined (primary) space structure – a spatial carrier structure for possibilities. The design is a suggestion in time – a process – and the images should show how it could look like in the process of a public spatial appropriation and development.
